Located on the north east side of Lake Tahoe (about 25 min from the actual lake), Truckee is a relaxed ski town with a lot to offer – especially the cuisine. Sometimes small ski towns are hard to come by, but Truckee felt like a well kept secret. Below are my reccos on the best restaurants in Truckee, California.
Drunken Monkey: Japanese restaurant offering more than just sushi and everything is good. It can get packed so ressies are highly recommended. If you don’t make one, there is a brewery next door you can grab a drink at while you wait (see below).
5050 Brewing Co: located next to Drunken Monkey, this is a great place to belly up to the bar after a good day on the mountain for a flight or for some grub. They have a little bit of everything and everything we tried did not disappoint. Yes, I got a calzone for myself and didn’t regret it.
Casa Baeza Mexican Restaurant: if you are in Truckee on a Tuesday, GO HERE. Taco Tuesday is a great deal, FUN and the tacos are GOOD. It can get rowdy in a great way, we were told about this by a local and they couldn’t have been more spot on. Don’t miss out on this one!
Squeeze In: Down to earth home cooking offering breakfast and lunch. They also serve champagne/mimosas in pint glasses – just going to leave that right there. They don’t take ressies but you can put your name down and then wander around the town. It’s worth the wait.
Moody’s: Great spot to unwind with good food, good live music and great cocktails.
RMU: Rocky Mountain Underground is so much more than gear; they have bites and drinks, and they are bomb. Great hang out after a day on the mountain, very relaxed and chill atmosphere. Craft cocktails, local beers and small bites is never a bad idea.
