With Bar Harbor being the main focus point on Mount Desert, don’t miss out on exploring the surrounding Harbors/areas. We found a few more restaurants that offered amazing seafood, cozy atmospheres and my absolute favorite steamed lobster on the trip! Check out my top 5 places to eat outside of Bar Harbor:
Harbor right on the Somes Sound offering a lunch and dinner menu with indoor and outdoor seating. They steam their lobsters is fresh seawater straight from the sound and they are absolutely incredible. Prepare to wait as this can get crowded as they do not accept reservations, but you can put your name down, grab a drink and water to the docks.
2. Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound
About 30 minutes southwest from Bar Harbor, this is a must stop at if you plan to visit Southwest Harbor. It is a little more south, but worth the extra time to get here. Its a small food truck on the side of the road that does not disappoint with their seafood. The lobster rolls and clam chowder were amazing, a lot of people there were getting the steamed lobster dinner too.
This restaurant came recommended to us by friends who live in Bar Harbor – so we had to try it. Highly recommend making the drive to visit as this is in Southwest Harbor as well. Located right across the street from the dock, this is the place to come if you’re hungry as they don’t skimp on their portions! They have local oysters and sandwiches bulky enough to share, but don’t offer lobster. Delish, no frills, fresh food.
4. Upper Deck
Great cozy restaurant offering views of the marina serving lunch and dinner. We came for sunset and they had a live band. With outdoor seating, great fried clams and a cozy ambience, this is definitely a place to stop.
Located 20 minutes from Bar Harbor in Northeast Harbor, Milk and Honey offers a great selection of breakfast and lunch items. They make everything in house and their baked goods are incredible. We got their breakfast sandwich on their scratch made biscuits and I would drive back there just for those. Highly recommend!
