Lake Louise is just as jaw dropping-ly beautiful in the winter as it is in the summer. Tip: it's little less crowded as well. We came to be ski bums for 2 weeks in Banff and one of my favorite days was when we ventured to Lake Louise, Alberta. Read below for the perfect day in Lake Louise, Alberta in the winter.
Ski Lake Louise
The Canadian Rockies are intimidating and unbelievably beautiful. They remind me of the Tetons with the jagged bowls and steep mountain tops, so the views from the top of the ski resorts are unmatched. Lake Louise Resort was a wide open skier or riders dream. With breathtaking views at every corner it’s definitely a place to shred, test your skills and definitely take in the views (my fave). It’s 40-45 min outside of Banff, and if you go, go early because traffic can be bad on the weekends.
Enjoy Après
Ask anyone what my favorite sport is and it’s après. It’s a feel good environment where everyone wants to chill with a good drink and chat about their day on the mountain. There are a few options for après but keep in mind they don’t stay open that late. Whiskey Jack’s has a fun bar inside the lodge while Base Camp is right at the base of the mountain. Whichever you chose, you won’t go wrong.
Visit the Fairmont Lake Louise
Just a short ride from Lake Louise Ski Resort, The Fairmont offers a lot of after skiing festivities. Nestled right on Lake Louise, you can walk on the lake itself, bring your ice skates and skate or enjoy the drinks at their ice bar. We obviously went for the ice bar, serving up hot soul warming drinks all outside. The bar is completely made of ice, but they do offer heaters to cozy up by. They have a restaurant in the hotel, so you can end your night here as well with dinner. Recommend making them in advance if you do.
