The Perfect Day Trip to Flathead Lake

Located in Big Fork, Montana Flathead Lake is the largest lake in the state spanning over 27 miles long. My trip out to Montana couldn’t be complete without visiting the town of Big Fork even just for the day. Staying in Kalispell (check out my Kalispell post here), Flathead Lake was a quick 15 minute drive and well worth it. Below are some recommendations for the perfect day trip to Flathead Lake!

Kayak or Take the Ferry to Wild Horse Island

Tucked away in the southwest part of the lake, Wild Horse island is a great short hike and place to soak in the views of the vast lake. As it names states, there are wild horses and wildlife on the island – so keep watch!

Have a beer at Flathead Lake Brewery

With a great food and beer list and sweeping views of the lake, this is a great spot for lunch. They offer free WIFI as well in case you have to get some work done.

Sip some craft cocktails and spirits at Whistling Andy

Meticulously handcrafting cocktails with their locally sourced in house spirits, you won’t leave here without a bottle (or two).

Have lunch at The Raven

Lake front casual restaurant offering a Caribbean style atmosphere with an international approach on their menu.
