Located a little over an hour from the west entrance of Glacier National Park, Whitefish, MT is known to be a landing pad for travelers to go explore the park. Being a more resort town than Kalispell (where I stayed – check out my guide to Kalispell, MT here) the town is more built up. I visited in September so everything was fully open and ready for visitors. I hope you find my list of what to do in Whitefish, Montana helpful!
Set right on Whitefish Lake, this hotel and restaurant is a great place for dinner, drinks and a great view. They have an indoor restaurant with outdoor patio seating set up with great views of the lake. You can even walk down to the docks for some great pictures. Views are better than the food – fyi.
Hike Lion Mountain Trail
Just over 2 miles from Whitefish, this easy 2.6 mile in and out trail is a great relaxing any time of the day hike. Great for any skill level and offers a scenic overview of a lake.
Grab a Drink on Casey’s Rooftop at dusk
Casey’s is an Irish pub offering bar bites, live music and a great rooftop to grab a happy hour drink. With sweeping mountain views and firepits, its a great place to cozy up to.
Taste some local spirits at Spotted Bear Spirits
Taking inspiration from Montana’s heart and soul, this distillery offers unique and delicious spirits to taste. They also offer a beautiful cocktail menu served in various goblets – great place for a drink before dinner!
Hands down the best sandwiches, period. They have a nice outdoor picnic area full of families, dogs and games so you can spend some time here. They offer free WIFI as well, so it’s a great place to work remotely while grabbing a bite.
Enjoy the many delicious restaurants
Dinner is a sport to me, so we actually made the 25min drive from Kalispell to Whitefish multiple times for dinner. A few of my favorites were Latitude 48 (eclectic menu and innovative cocktails) and Tupelo Grill (great mountain comfort food). Definitely make reservations in advance
Enjoy freshly made ginger beer + juices
Huck’s place offers great fresh juices along with a variety of homemade ginger beers on tap. They offer free WIFI, so another good spot to get some work done.
Wich Haus Huck’s Latitude 48 Remington’s
Watch a game at Bulldog Saloon
This is the place to be to watch any sporting event. Whether it’s Sunday football or just to have a good time, Bulldog offers great bar food and an even better atmosphere. Try their huckleberry wings!
Grab drinks at the local pubs
The town comes alive at night, we visited Remington Bar + Casino (live music, stuffed wildlife everywhere) and the Palace Bar – get ready for a good time.
Offering coffees, smoothies and macaroons this over the top cafe is a must stop. I’m talking chandeliers and pink neon signs – check them out (hair toss).
